Chiropractic Care Q & A

by Daniel Jacobazzi, D.C., P.T.

What Exactly is Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is a drug-free, surgery-free approach to treatment for a wide array of musculoskeletal and neurological issues. It is based on the knowledge that proper musculoskeletal alignment – especially of the spine – is key to optimal health. Chiropractors use their hands to make spinal adjustments and manipulate soft tissue to restore and maintain proper alignment in the body. The term “chiropractic” comes from the Greek words cheir (hand) and praxis (practice). In addition to his hands, Dr. Jacobazzi uses a number of other tools to treat patients, including traction devices, electrical stimulation, instruction in corrective exercises and stretches, nutrition and supplement counseling.

What Conditions Can Be Treated By A Chiropractor?

Chiropractors offer safe and effective relief for a broad scope of conditions. Among those most commonly treated are:

  • Back pain, affecting between 60% and 80% of the adult population in this country
  • Neck pain, which is often caused by overuse, such as sitting at a computer too long. Other causes include: sleeping in awkward positions, straining or falling during exercise, and car accidents. Whiplash is a common car accident injury in which the soft tissue in the neck is strained. It can also be called a neck sprain.
  • Headaches and migraines, most often caused by muscle tension in the neck.
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome, an injury caused by a pinched nerve in the wrist.
  • Ligament and joint pain, whether caused by an accident or overuse.
  • Shoulder pain, such as bursitis and tendinitis, rotator cuff tears, frozen shoulder, and shoulder dislocation.
  • Foot pain, including Achilles tendonitis and plantar fasciitis.

What are the Benefits of Chiropractic Care?

Chiropractic care is natural, works with your body’s natural processes and avoids the dangerous side effects associated with prescription drugs or surgeries. Treatments address the root cause of the problem, not just symptoms and decrease the likelihood of future injuries.
