Whole body vibration is the ticket to getting better results faster. Whether you’re a high-level athlete or just looking to get back to moving around without pain or problems, using whole body vibration therapy is a proven method to ACCELERATE your progress.
- Increase your strength and flexibility
- Accelerate your body’s response to training
- Boost your metabolism and enhance weight loss
- Minimize the risk of injury with multi-directional vibration
- Experience maximum results in minimum time
You may have noticed as you age or after an injury, your flexibility decreased. This decrease is a result of soft tissue being damaged and developing adhesions and scar tissue. Experience enough injuries or limit your activity levels and your body will become progressively less flexible, your muscles and ligaments shorten and are unable to relax as much, limiting your ability to move. Stretching is known to be an obvious solution to this problem. Static and active stretching helps the body “reset” to new resting lengths, improving your flexibility. Using whole body vibration (WBV) causes an additive effect and allows your muscles to relax more quickly by stimulating your brain to reduce the tension in your muscles helping your body to reduce tone and lengthen your shortened muscles. Inactive lifestyles and poor posture from using cellphones and technology are the most common causes of decreased flexibility. Any therapy program that fails to address your loss of flexibility and normal motion BEFORE strengthening those muscles will decrease the chances you can achieve the best possible outcome.
Our office features the most advanced whole body vibration equipment available. Our Power Plates vibrate at frequencies between 30 – 50 times per second (Hz). The platforms are equipped with handles and grips to allow for increased stability for those who are just starting out.
How does Vibration Training Affect Your Muscles and Nervous System?
- When you are exercising on regular ground, your body is only using about 40-60% of your muscle fibers to perform a movement. The brain only “recruits” the minimum number of muscle fibers required to execute a movement. Using a power plate, your body can be tricked into using nearly 100% of the muscle fibers associated with a specific movement.
- The increase in recruitment occurs because the vibration causes a continuous stretch reflex in your muscles. This stretch reflex means your muscles are contracting at incredibly high frequencies and increased forces; so, your body wants to bring more fibers into the equation to make certain the movement is completed correctly.
- Your body also increases its blood flow during whole body vibration, bringing restorative nutrients into damaged muscle fibers and flushing out damaged cells more quickly.
According to a recent study (Journal Of Endocrinology), whole body vibration lead to fat loss and an increase of bone density in as little as 3 months. The power plate makes the body “feel” as if gravity has increased. Vibration also causes stem cells in your body to differentiate to bone and muscle rather than fat. So, your body is “tricked” into become leaner and denser through the use of WBV.
WBV vibration decreases the amount of time needed during exercise. Even though your body is working harder, it doesn’t have to work as long and you are less likely to experience a fatigue related injury. An active responsive muscle is ready for whatever you throw at it. WBV causes the muscles, which are called “fast twitch” to become more active because the constant vibration means your body has to react more quickly. Over time, your body learns to activate these fast twitch muscles more easily, burning in new motor patterns, which help your body respond more quickly, and effectively to any movements or imbalance.
Maximum Result, Minimum Time
In a recent study in the Journal of Sport Science and Medicine, ACL recovery times for patients who used WBV as compared to those who used standard treatment methods was cut in half.
That’s right, the study found “Despite a more than 50% reduction in time spent for exercise sessions, the WBV group achieved significant better results in the stability test.”
Since adding whole body vibration to our treatment protocols, our patients have been able to realize greater improvements in less time. Not only do the results occur more quickly but they tend to last longer as well.
All of the technology at our office, whole body vibration included, is aimed at getting the maximum result in the quickest possible time. WBV has become an important part of the spinal remodeling program at our office. Learning or re-learning to use our muscles effectively to control our posture and movement is a key component of creating a lasting result. Power plates and WBV burn normal movement patterns into your muscle memory much more quickly and effectively than any non-vibration therapy available.
For patients who come to our office experiencing pain, just standing on the power plate for as little as 60 seconds can have a calming effect and lead to hours of relief. The versatility of whole body vibration means it plays an important part in all phases of patient care. Decreasing pain, restoring movement and increasing strength are the core of any therapy program and the power plate and WBV helps you move through each of those phases rapidly. Our patients don’t work harder, they work smarter with the help of whole body vibration.
